Revolutionising Bitcoin Mining Efficiency with 3D Network-on-Chip Architecture
At Cuneiform, we are proud to announce a breakthrough in Bitcoin mining ASIC design that challenges the conventional wisdom about process node limitations. Our NEXUS mining system, built on a 7nm process with proprietary 3D Network-on-Chip (NoC) architecture, achieves performance metrics that rival and exceed many 5nm competitors.
Breaking the Efficiency Barrier
The NEXUS system delivers an impressive 150 TH/s whilst maintaining power efficiency at 16 J/TH. This represents a 40-50% improvement over traditional 7nm implementations, achieved not through brute-force process shrinking, but through intelligent architectural innovation.
The 3D NoC Advantage
Our breakthrough centres on the implementation of a three-dimensional Network-on-Chip architecture that fundamentally reimagines how mining cores communicate and share workload:
• Vertical Integration: Multiple silicon layers are interconnected using through-silicon vias (TSVs), creating a dense 3D compute fabric that minimises data movement latency
• Optimised Routing: Proprietary routing algorithms within the NoC ensure work distribution occurs with minimal overhead, reducing power consumption in data movement by up to 60%
• Thermal Management: Strategic placement of compute cores across the 3D structure optimises heat dissipation, allowing sustained operation at peak performance
Beyond Single-Purpose Silicon
Unlike traditional mining ASICs that are locked to a single algorithm, NEXUS incorporates a standardised inter-ASIC bus architecture and flexible macrocode support. This forward-thinking design allows for potential algorithm updates and ensures longevity in an evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
First Silicon Success
We have successfully received and validated our first test silicon, with functional prototypes now operational in our laboratories. The measured performance aligns precisely with our simulations, confirming the viability of our 3D NoC approach. Production ramp-up is scheduled for Q2 2026, with early access programmes available for strategic partners.
This achievement represents months of intensive research and development by our ASIC design team, led by myself and our CTO, Senan El-Dujaili. It demonstrates that innovation in architecture can overcome the limitations of process technology, delivering exceptional value to mining operations worldwide.
